Hello world!

Hello. World. These are two my favourite words. To explain this, I need to go down memory lane all the way to the 90s. The first time I learnt of the existence of these two words was back in 1997, when I was first introduced to this programming language called DOS (blast from the past eh?). The prospect of seeing these two glorious words by just typing some characters on a three-piece personal computer back when I was ten years old, was something that excited me to no limit! As destiny would have it, I went on to get a degree in Computer Engineering. And every time I learnt a new programming language, these two words would pop up – giving me a sense of giddy joy, familiar comfort and childish excitement – of embarking on a new journey of learning to create something new and futuristic.

That brings me to the point of this post. This post is my Hello World. I am learning how to create something new and futuristic. Create, I will. But this time, I am not just going to see two words on a screen. I will be creating a product/brand/company, or two. I am on the edge of something that excites me and gives me the same level of anticipation that I had back in 1997. The beauty of “Hello World” also lies in its simplicity. Talking to a computer in a language that both human and machine understand much like the relationship between the product and consumer. I hope the journey is as simple as well.

There is a concept in programming called Time To Hello World, a very qualitative measure of how long a programmer is able to author a piece of code that prints “Hello World”. It helps break the programming language barrier, and gets the coder comfortable with using the rules of the language in the most simple and standardized manner. Applied to starting a company, I think I am not there yet. I am getting there though, and I would love for you, dear reader, to join me on my journey while I celebrate my successes and learn from my mistakes. Are you ready to go on this adventure with me?
